About the photo & equipment

The marine iguana separated from its ancestor approximately 5.7 million years ago. Surprisingly, Galapagos marine iguanas have not only evolved to become spectacular swimmers, but also to cope with the cold, salty waters where they feed. Evolution is a continuous process, and it seems that iguanas are adapting their behavior to survive in difficult times, such as El Niño events that strongly affect the climate and ecosystems of the Galapagos from time to time.
